Supervision

There are no direct reports for this position.

Position Summary

Under close supervision, the Custodian performs general custodial duties including cleaning, dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. Uses proper materials and methods to ensure areas are clean and safe.

Typical Duties

1. Clean, dust, and wipe furniture.
2. Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors.
3. Empty and clean wastebaskets, trash containers, and cigarette urns.
4. Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures. Refill restroom dispensers.
5. Assist with setup for meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events.
6. Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use as directed.
7. Wash accessible interior and exterior windows. Clean blinds.
8. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to utilize a wide array of custodial chemicals and general cleaning chemicals.
• Ability to safely operate custodial equipment (vacuum, backpack vacuum, cardboard bailer).
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to follow instructions.
• Computer literacy for business software, internet use, and data entry/retrieval.
• Human relations skills to build effective working relationships.

Certificates Required

No specific licenses or certificates are required, but local, state, and/or contract requirements may apply.

Physical Requirements

Employees must be able to perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, stooping, lifting up to 35 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, pushing/pulling objects, grasping, and climbing ladders or step stools.
