Position Summary

Under the supervision of Building Superintendent of Maintenance, will keep the premises of the facilities in a clean and orderly condition. Ensuring sanitation and Occupational Safety Hazard (OSHA) applications are maintained for employees and patients. The Custodian aligns with people, purpose, process, and professionalism, and actively employs the principles of each to achieve personal, team, and organizational objectives.

Essential Functions

  • Cleans and dusts and/or polishes offices (furniture and equipment), bathrooms, water coolers, hallways, common areas, floors, windows, vacuums carpets, dust and polish furniture, make minor repairs and paints when necessary.
  • Empty and re-bag all facility waste baskets and garbage cans daily and transport to the outside trash dumpster.
  • Replenishes bathroom supplies.
  • Maintains inventory and secures adequate supplies necessary to perform assigned duties, ensuring proper supply and stock.
  • Use approved chemical cleaners and power equipment such as floor buffers and stripping machines properly to avoid harming floors, fixtures and others.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the external areas surrounding the buildings and clinics.
  • Replace light bulbs.
  • Assist with deliveries and furniture movement when necessary.
  • Set up tables and chairs in meeting rooms as requested.
  • Prepares and submits daily Cleaning Checklist forms and logs for filing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalency preferred.
  • Two (2) years of related experience in a similar position.
  • S95 Certification within 90 days of hire
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemical and floor cleaning equipment.
  • Understand, remember and carry out oral and written directions.
  • Proven ability to take needed safety precautions in performing the work.
  • Proven ability to store safeguard, distribute and properly use equipment and supplies.
  • Excellent ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform duties of this position.
  • Basic knowledge of handheld communication devices, hand and power tools.
  • Basic computer knowledge is required.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Applications a plus.
  • Bilingual in any language a plus.
  • Valid Unrestricted Driver’s License a plus

Physical Requirements

Indoor; Outdoors; noisy; minor burns, cuts, bites or stings; standing; stooping; kneeling; walking and running; using hands on objects, tools or controls. Frequently lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Travel between sites that are located throughout New York City.
