California State University, Long Beach is hiring: Custodian in San Jose

Overview

These positions will work weekends in the Facilities Development and Operations department as Custodian. Duties include cleaning and maintaining buildings and facilities to meet campus standards, and may require operation of light vehicles between campus buildings.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, vacuum, spot clean carpets, scrub, mop, wax, and polish floors
• Clean classrooms, laboratories, lavatories, locker rooms, blackboards, white boards, windows, and venetian blinds
• Replenish lavatory supplies, empty wastebaskets and recycling bins, remove trash/recycling from campus buildings
• Replace lamps in light fixtures; lock/unlock doors and windows as required
• Safeguard buildings or equipment; transport materials between buildings and operate campus vehicles as needed
• Assist with organizing and moving tables and chairs to campus standards; check and change light bulbs
• Utilize personal protective equipment as required
• Other duties listed in the CSU Classification and Qualification Standards and Department Guidelines as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Complete Defensive Driver Training Program for CSU campuses and pass the course exam
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to use and care for custodial supplies and equipment
• Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position
• Ability to provide customer service with high ethical standards
• Ability to take initiative and independently plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations

Required Qualifications

• Ability to communicate verbally at a level appropriate to the duties of the position
• Ability to follow simple oral and written directions
• Ability to understand chemical/product mixing ratios and label containers accordingly
• Valid California Driver's License required for operation of any vehicle or equipment
• Must participate in all OSHA required physicals and examinations

License

A valid driver’s license is required. Out-of-state candidates must obtain a California driver’s license within 10 days of hire. Successful completion of the Defensive Driver Training Program is required after hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Six months of full-time custodial or service industry experience in an institutional or commercial setting
• Six months of full-time experience with industrial or commercial equipment

Compensation

Classification: Custodian

Anticipated Hiring Range: up to $3,680/month

CSU Salary Range: $3,680/month - $4,951/month
