Overview
The Custodian will perform daily cleaning, minor maintenance, yard duties, and assigned tasks in order to provide a clean and healthy learning environment in all school district facilities.
Responsibilities
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes, and burnishes floors, vacuums and shampoos carpets where applicable; cleans, sanitizes, and stocks restrooms; cleans and dusts surfaces as assigned; removes and disposes of waste daily; maintains clean custodial closets.
- Performs minor maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs and toilet seats, unclogging toilets, changing ceiling tiles, touching up paint, securing windows, delivering supplies, setting up for facility activities/meetings, and assembling/moving furniture.
- Follows lawn and facility maintenance tasks including mowing, weeding, weed-eating, edging, trimming, fertilizing, minor plant replacement, mulching, blowing sidewalks/curbs, watering, pressure washing, and graffiti removal as appropriate.
- Opens or closes and secures the facility (gates, doors, windows, alarm systems). Turns on/off lights and ensures grounds and facility are free of debris and hazards. Responds to emergencies by securing the perimeter.
- Performs duties independently and/or as part of a custodial crew; demonstrates tact and cooperation; maintains a positive outlook and supports co-workers.

Experience and Qualifications
- One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in large-scale housekeeping, custodial, or building and grounds maintenance.
Certificates/Licenses
- All new and current employees are encouraged to complete the Custodial Operations Career Advancement training program.
Skills
- Language: Reads and comprehends simple instructions and memos; writes simple correspondence; basic working English.
- Mathematical: Ability to add/subtract two-digit numbers; multiply/divide by 10s and 100s; use money, weight, volume, and distance measures.
- Reasoning: Applies common sense; handles standard situations with limited variables.
- Computer: Familiar with internal email and district website.
Physical Demands
- Physical activities: Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching, handling, keyboarding, talking, hearing, vision, and related senses.
- Lifting: Up to 55 pounds; over 55 pounds with a two-person lift.
- Environmental: Noise, extreme temperatures, wet/humid conditions, cleaning chemicals; PPE as required; exposure to moving parts and electrical hazards.
