About the Team

ACCEL Schools is seeking a Custodian for Columbus Humanities, Arts and Technology Academy in Columbus, OH to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the school building.

CHATA serves EK-8th grade students in North Columbus and is part of ACCEL Schools, a network of public charter schools serving PK-12 students since 2014.

About the Opportunity

  • Keep the school grounds safe, secure, and clean at all times
  • Perform routine cleaning, housekeeping, and basic maintenance as prescribed by the custodial duty listing, including but not limited to:
  • Removing trash
  • Cleaning and wiping down surfaces (blackboards, hand railings, doors, etc.)
  • Changing light bulbs
  • Vacuuming and mopping floors
  • Cleaning windows and disinfecting restrooms
  • Assisting with cleaning the food service area
  • Painting
  • Set up and take down lunch tables in the multi-purpose room as required
  • Perform basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs as needed
  • Maintain the exterior appearance of the building (parking lot, playground, sidewalks, steps, lawns)
  • Perform snow removal activities as needed (shoveling, snow-blowing, salting walkways and steps)
  • Buff and wax floors as needed
  • Prepare the school for special events
  • Ensure school ground electronic and emergency systems are working properly
  • Inform the School Leader of any damage or wear to property and assist in planning replacements/refurbishment
  • Willingness to accept training and apply learned skills
  • Maintain all school tools, supplies, and machinery used in day-to-day operations
  • Report on extraordinary event days (e.g., snow days, holidays, power/water outages) to inspect the building and ensure safety
  • Contribute to a positive climate and culture by exhibiting high professional standards
  • Understand, accept, and implement the school’s philosophy and mission in all activities
  • Other duties as assigned

About You / Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of federal and state criminal background checks
  • Ability to perform physical work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 lbs
  • Ability to use outdoor and indoor cleaning equipment
  • Ability to report to work outside of school opening hours
  • Demonstrated punctuality and reliability
  • Knowledge of cleaning up and disposal of hazardous and bio-hazardous materials
  • Basic knowledge of electrical and plumbing repairs
  • Experience in an urban setting is a plus
