Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Facilities, the Lead Custodian will lead custodial personnel in all aspects of facilities and custodial services. The Lead Custodian will make recommendations for corrective action within each unit to the Manager, Facilities in employee training and orientation. The Lead Custodian is responsible to maintain, disinfect, sanitize, and preserve the museum facility. Encourage safe working procedures and report any safety hazards to supervisor. In addition, the Lead Custodian acts as a subject matter expert and provides leadership to custodial staff who perform such tasks as: clean, dust, strip, wax, sweep, mop, polish, vacuum, replenish restrooms, and remove refuse/recycling throughout campus facilities, conference rooms, elevators, stairwells, exteriors, etc. This position may work independently or as part of a team in assigned work areas. Oversees critical day-to-day operations in supervisor's absence. Maintains a positive attitude and communicates effectively with colleagues, supervisors, staff, faculty and students.

Qualifications

Knowledge of proper use of the various floor care machines utilized by custodial staff, e.g., stripping machine, waxer/buffer, water pick-ups, etc. (Required)

Ability to correct inaccuracies in workmanship; communicate customer concerns to supervision. (Required)

Ability to maintain highest quality of custodial service at level consistent with University and department standards. (Required)

Skill in reading technical instructions related to custodial work in order to comprehend equipment operating instructions and/or documents related to the job functions. (Required)

Oral communication skills to obtain or convey clear, concise and grammatically correct information. (Required)

Ability to write standard English text at the complete sentence level to write inspection reports, respond to emails, complete forms and supply orders. (Required)

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, customers, visitors and outside agencies. (Required)

Working knowledge of standard safe work practices. (Required)
