Position Title: Custodian

Overview

Custodians are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of school buildings and grounds, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students and staff.

Responsibilities

• Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting surfaces in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, and other areas.
• Ensuring the proper functioning of restrooms, including stocking supplies and minor repairs.
• Emptying trash and recycling bins.
• Identifying and reporting potential safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
• Utilizing cleaning equipment such as mops, vacuums, and power scrubbers.
• Maintaining a clean and orderly environment, including stocking supplies and reporting maintenance needs.

Knowledge and Skills

• High School or GED diploma required
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and precisely
• Cultural competency and sensitivity to the needs of diverse student and family populations
• Ability to meet deadlines and work with minimal supervision
• Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing software related specifically to the job
• Commitment to the school's mission of providing a high-quality education and supportive environment for all students and families

Minimum Qualifications

• Job related experience is required; minimum of two (2) years
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate outreach events and activities (approval from supervisor required)
• Willing to set up and disassemble events

Other Requirements

• May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, the ability to adjust focus, and depth perception
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, talk, hear, walk, sit, and use fingers
• The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
• May be required to work outside during normal working hours
• May be required to travel to perform work functions
