The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity as a Custodian at Montana State Hospital.
Custodians provide janitorial services to maintain Galen, a Forensic Mental Health Facility, building in a clean and orderly condition. Responsibilities include cleaning and disinfecting within the facility; restocking supplies and maintaining inventory of cleaning supplies; and checking areas for safety hazards such as broken glass and disposing of appropriately.
The current hours for this position are 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity:
General knowledge of janitorial procedures and operating various pieces of cleaning equipment such as a high-speed buffer, vacuum, and carpet and upholstery machines.
Skills in proper cleaning techniques.
Ability to work co-operatively with others and protect patients’ rights and confidentiality.
Ability to be comfortable working around mentally ill and security risk patients.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to demonstrate a friendly “can do” attitude.
Meet the following minimum qualifications:
High School or GED.
One year janitorial, housekeeping, or custodial experience preferred.

This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 base pay increase upon ratification of union contract and again on July 1, 2026.
