Title: Custodian III
Reports To: Principal (and, if applicable, the Custodial Supervisor)
Supervises: Custodians or Helpers when supervisory responsibility is specifically assigned
Position Purpose: To provide the upkeep, maintenance, cleanliness, safety, and security of the assigned building, ensuring a safe and clean environment for teaching and learning.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to follow instructions
- Understanding of custodial duties
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, hazardous materials, and proper duty procedures
- Ability to perform work independently according to standards and procedures
- Ability to work in varied weather and temperature conditions
- Communication and team-building skills
Physical/Emotional Requirements: The incumbent may need to use speaking, hearing, visual, bending/stooping, walking, reaching skills throughout the workday. The position is rated as Level 4, requiring lifting/carrying of 50-100 lbs occasionally, 25-50 lbs frequently, and 10-20 lbs continuously. High school and middle school employees must meet Level 4 physical requirements. Failure to meet physical limits may result in disciplinary action.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly and courteously to service requests
- Perform maintenance and repairs according to standards
- Complete assigned work tasks
- Clean and maintain building interiors, including floors, walls, furniture, windows, and ceilings
- Perform routine maintenance on lighting, mechanical equipment, filters, furniture, and ceiling tiles
- Report unsafe conditions or repairs needed to the principal
- Requisition and maintain custodial supplies and equipment
- Respond courteously to staff and administration
- Monitor custodial budget, record expenditures, and prepare reports
- Maintain outdoor grounds, including grass, plants, trash, and outdoor equipment
- Ensure building security and proper opening/closing procedures
- Assist with snow removal and other duties as assigned
- Operate and care for custodial equipment
- Consult with supervisor on job issues
- Maintain professional appearance, language, and work ethic
- Perform cleaning, minor repairs, and preventative maintenance tasks
- Prepare building for inspections
- Ensure fire safety devices are operational
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Terms of Employment: 12 months; salary and work year to be determined by the Board of Education.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated according to Board policies on Support Services Personnel.
Significant Associations: Responsibilities may include additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
