CUSTODIAN
Definition: Under general supervision, to follow a schedule in the performance of custodial duties required to maintain assigned rooms, equipment, buildings and adjacent areas in a clean, orderly and secure manner; and to perform all related duties as assigned.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Work from a prepared work schedule, sweep, scrub, wax, polish concrete, tile, and wood floors in administrative and nurses offices, faculty rooms, classrooms, libraries, auditoriums, dining rooms, and hallways.
- Clean and dust walls, furniture, woodwork, and other equipment. Vacuum and clean rugs and carpets.
- Pick up paper and other refuse on grounds and sweep walks and entrances. Wash, scrub, and disinfect restrooms. Clean windows, door glass, and drinking fountains.
- Clean and polish metal work such as door panels and hand railings. Empty and clean waste containers.
- Assist in moving or rearranging chairs, tables, desks, furniture, and other equipment. Replace light globes. Make minor repairs or adjustments to classroom furniture.
- Operate and maintain equipment used in the course of work, such as buffers and vacuums. Participate in major cleaning of school plant during vacation periods.
- Report safety, sanitary and fire hazards.
Minimum Requirements:
- Knowledge of: Modern materials, methods and equipment used in cleaning and preserving various surfaces and furniture; cleaning materials, disinfectants, and equipment used in custodial work; tools and their proper uses in minor maintenance work; fire prevention and safety regulations.
- Ability to: Work without immediate supervision; maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; stand, bend, twist, reach, grasp, stretch, climb, balance, kneel, crouch or squat, push, pull or drag; occasionally lift and carry objects weighing approximately 50 lbs (e.g., garbage and trash bags/cans; cleaning equipment and supplies, tables and chairs, classroom desks, etc.); read and write and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Experience: 1 year of experience in janitorial or maintenance work.
- Education: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D.).
- License: Possession of a valid California motor vehicle operator's license is required.
- Fingerprint & TB Clearance: Fingerprint and TB clearance will be required prior to employment.
