TITLE: Head Custodian
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Has a high school diploma or G.E.D. certificate
- Has at least three years of custodial experience
- Has the ability to read and follow written directions
- Has the physical ability to perform heavy physical labor
- Has the ability to lift and move objects weighing at least 50 pounds numerous times per day
- Exhibits personal habits in keeping with the assigned responsibilities
- Has demonstrated ability to relate and work well with people
- Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
JOB GOAL: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play, develop, and eat; to provide staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place to teach, eat and provide services and to provide leadership in the accomplishment of these responsibilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Be familiar with and follow written guidelines, policies, procedures and directions from supervisor related to job responsibilities
- Keep building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times
- Regulate heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity
- Shovel, plow, and maintain walks, driveways, and parking areas, as appropriate
- Check daily to ensure that all exits are open and all panic hardware is working properly during the hours of building occupancy
- Raise the United States flag at or before 8:00 a.m. on each school day and lower it at assigned time
- Sweep, mop, wet-cash, and vacuum floors, and dust furniture and clean and polish fixtures and glass on schedule in assigned areas
- Clean corridors after school each day and during the day when conditions require it
- Scrub, hose down, and disinfect toilet floors daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily and during the day when conditions require it
- Remove waste and trash from building
- Wash all windows on both sides at least twice each year
- Perform such yard keeping as necessary to maintain safe and attractive environment
- Clean all chalkboards at least once a week
- Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation
- Report immediately to the Principal any damage to school property
- Remain on the school premises during school work hours, and during non-school hours when attendance is required by the Principal
- Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each day including lights, heat, windows and doors
- Move furniture or equipment within the building as required for various activities as directed by the Principal or designee
- Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste
- Make minor repairs such as chairs, desks, and locks
- Perform daily cleaning of kitchen including waste and trash removal
- Shelve all deliveries in appropriate storage--dry, refrigerated or frozen
- Maintain sufficient inventory of supplies and equipment
- Conduct periodic inspections of the building and campus to ensure their clean and safe condition
- Assist with orientation of new custodial staff
- Assist the principal in scheduling, organizing, and supervising custodial services
- Assist the principal in preparing work schedules, assignments and coordination of dates
- Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
