Controller
Diocese of Fresno – Fresno, CA

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Fresno serves over one million Catholics across 87 parishes and 35,000+ square miles. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller oversees accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, audits, budgeting, tax compliance, payroll, and treasury management.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all diocesan financial reporting and ensure compliance with GAAP and Canon Law.
• Manage accounting systems, policies, and internal controls.
• Oversee monthly/annual closings, budgets, and audits.
• Supervise accounting staff and support parishes, pastors, and schools with financial guidance.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and Church requirements.
• Manage banking, investments, and treasury functions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred.
• 5–7 years’ experience in accounting, auditing, or as Controller.
• Strong knowledge of fund accounting, budgeting, internal controls, tax law, and GAAP.
• Practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software (MIP Fund Accounting/Abila preferred).
• Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.

Compensation

Base pay range: $110,000.00/yr - $130,000.00/yr. Salary commensurate with experience, with comprehensive benefits. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.
