United Container has immediate openings for reliable, hard-working candidates for our team in Saint Joseph. You must have demonstrated punctual and dependable attendance at your previous employer to be considered for this job.

Drives power industrial forklift truck to load, unload and/or move products, equipment or materials and performs various other functions within the warehouse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Successfully operates a power industrial forklift by moving levers, pressing pedals, and controlling lifting apparatus.
  • Perform daily forklift inspections and follow forklift operating guidelines.
  • Loads and unloads trailers with a fork truck, placing bundles and/or pallets of boxes on the sorting conveyor or moving boxes from the staging area to the sorting area as needed.
  • Inventories completed bales of boxes from the sorting and/or production area. Places bales onto pallets and records placement in the warehouse storage area on inbound inventory sheets.
  • Inventories items received as finished goods by attaching identifying tags and records placement in warehouse storage areas on inbound inventory sheets. May require counting and measuring movement on appropriate forms for inventory control.
  • Moves and organizes items to maintain efficient storage areas and records inventory movement on the appropriate forms for inventory control.
  • Pulls samples of inventoried items as needed by customer service for our customers.
  • Pulls proper items identified on Picking Tickets to be shipped, loads the items into the semi-trailers, box trucks, or flatbeds for deliveries or pre-stages, orders where Picking Tickets are marked as being delivered by Common Carrier or Customer Pickup. Documents the items pulled on the Picking Ticket and completes quantity shipped on the Delivery Ticket.
  • When loading trailers for multiple stop loads, loads the items in reverse order of the drivers stops, identifying every stop with color-coded labels, and attach labels of the same color to the customer\'s paperwork.
  • Weighs materials or products such as outbound common carries loads and inbound scrap. Records weight on the appropriate paperwork.
  • Sweep out empty trailers and report any damage to the ceiling, sidewalls, and/or floor to the warehouse supervisor.
  • Inspect the ceiling, sidewalls, and floor for damage before loading and unloading any trailer from an outside carrier. Notify the driver and the warehouse supervisor of any pre-existing damage.
  • Replaces forklift propane tank as needed.
  • Performs cleanup of the shipping and receiving areas at the end of the shift or as required.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with United Container's safety manual.
  • Regular attendance is an essential function of this job.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be legally authorized/eligible to work in the United States.
  • Ability to read, write, count, and perform basic math skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Requires initiative and ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Ability to talk, listen, understand and follow directions.
  • Ability to set priorities and flexibly to reset priorities in a changing environment.
  • Ability to pay attention to details.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organization skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude skills are required.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed by the business.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 1-2 years of related experience working in a similar industry is preferred; additional education may be substituted for years of work experience.
  • Powered Industrial Forklift Truck License (we will train and provide certification). Prior license/certification is highly preferred.

  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly required to talk and/or hear to communicate with co-workers and/or truck drivers.
  • Manual dexterity is required for operating machinery.
  • Frequently required to bend, twist, turn, kneel and/or squat.
  • Frequently required to stand and/or walk on the concrete warehouse floor.
  • Frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with a warehouse.
  • Safety equipment to include, but not limited to a hi-vis safety vest and utility knife.

Pay

  • $17.00 per hour

Shift

  • 7am-3:30pm
  • Monday - Friday + OT as needed
