Schnitzer Steel is hiring: Forklift Operator in Kansas City

Essential Functions:

• Ability to multi-task, keeping job production flowing throughout the store and production area at all times.
• Ensure work area is a safe environment at all times.
• Ability to carry out verbal and written tasks with minimal supervision.
• Perform daily inspections on loader.
• Stage vehicles, including transporting them to and from the staging area.
• Transport vehicles to and from the drain shop.
• Check fluids twice daily to ensure proper operation.
• Operate forklift or skid steer while observing all safety regulations.
• Assist in maintaining a safe production/store environment for employees and customers.
• Ensure an environmentally safe environment.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Marginal Functions:

• Knowledge and experience in the auto dismantling industry.
• Prior experience operating a loader or similar equipment is a plus.

Physical Activities Required:

• Sitting, walking, bending, and stretching are regularly required to perform job functions, production, and safety responsibilities.
• Able to sit for 6-8 hours per day in two-hour intervals.
• Manual dexterity to handle tools and the ability to move 50 pounds regularly required.
• Sufficient vision to perform job functions.
• Good eye-hand coordination and motor skills.

Job Conditions:

• Exposure to outdoor weather conditions on a regular basis.
• Periodic exposure to minimal chemical hazards.

Qualifications:

• Attend retraining classes annually that meet company standards.
• Successfully complete the Chemical Hazards Training program.
• Able to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
• Able to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
• Perform quality work efficiently with minimal supervision.
• Work flexible shifts and schedules.
• Use proper safety equipment and procedures.
