Position Summary

As a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), you will play a crucial role in upholding industry standards and customer specifications. In this role, you will conduct visual inspections and detailed dimensional checks, while also supporting continuous improvement initiatives in welding quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Quality Control
- Conduct thorough visual weld inspections in compliance with AWS and other applicable standards.
- Assess weld joint preparation, fit-up, and welding procedures before and during production to ensure quality.
- Perform dimensional checks to confirm that all parts meet drawing specifications and tolerances.
- Continuously monitor weld quality throughout production to verify adherence to the Welding Procedure Specification (WPS).
Documentation & Compliance
- Keep meticulous inspection reports and quality control records.
- Validate welder qualifications and maintain compliance with necessary certification codes.
- Interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings to enhance understanding and execution.
- Ensure full compliance with all welding codes, industry standards, and internal quality procedures.
Process Improvement & Support
- Collaborate with welders, fitters, and supervisors to address and resolve welding quality challenges.
- Propose corrective actions and identify opportunities for improvement in welding processes.
- Assist in training and mentoring welding personnel on quality standards and best practices to foster a culture of excellence.
Qualifications
- Must possess a current AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in welding inspection within a fabrication or manufacturing setting.
- In-depth knowledge of GMAW, SAW, and other welding processes.
- Able to effectively read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical documents.
- Exceptional attention to detail, coupled with strong documentation and communication skills.
- Familiarity with AWS or other industry-specific codes is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and quality assurance/quality control documentation systems.
Physical Requirements
- Willingness to work in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, and metal fumes.
- Capability to stand, walk, bend, and climb ladders or platforms for prolonged durations.
- Able to lift weights up to 50 lbs as required.
Work Environment
This position is primarily based in a fabrication shop, with occasional travel to field or customer sites as necessary. Adherence to safety protocols is mandatory, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, and additional safety gear will be required at all times.
