Your primary role will be to facilitate student learning, helping our students achieve their program and course objectives while guiding them as they shape their future in the industry. You will administer lessons following a pre-developed lesson plan, leading your students through the practical, hands-on application of the lessons you teach.
Role Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate record keeping for student attendance and grades, advising students on attendance, grades, and discipline issues as necessary.
- Create and maintain a safe environment at all times.
- Manage all tools assigned to the classroom, including issuing, inspecting, repairing, and teaching proper handling of those tools.
- Communicate, support, and enforce school policies and procedures, advising students accordingly.
- Ensure an ethical and fair testing environment during periods of testing.
- Maintain classroom equipment through evaluation, inspection, parts ordering, and repair.
- Evaluate the curriculum to ensure it remains relevant.
- Conform to prescribed methods of record keeping as directed by supervisory staff.
- Communicate promptly regarding supplies, tools, or other essentials needed for students in the classroom.
- Maintain a working field knowledge through continuing education and demonstrate ongoing professional development.
- Attend semi-annual graduation ceremonies; attendance is mandatory.
Additional Admin Duties:
Instructor Training and Development:
- Work as part of the team to develop and maintain the Instructor Training and Development program.
- Implement the program and maintain all necessary records.
- Monitor new instructors in training and confer regularly regarding their progress.
- Provide mentorship and feedback for new instructors, accepting responsibility for their successful classroom preparation.
- Report insights regarding new instructors to the Lead Instructor/Director of Training and assist in the selection of new instructors for hiring.
Printed Material, Classroom Supplies & Tools:
- Teach new instructors how to request and order materials, supplies, and tools.
- Conduct a monthly inventory of tools necessary for classroom projects and discuss discrepancies with the phase instructor.
- Prompt other instructors to order printed materials, supplies, and tools to ensure adequate availability for students.
Personal Professional Development:
- Establish and implement a plan to cross-train and teach in any phase of training necessary.
- Update the Lead Instructor/Director of Training on the progress of your plan for review and feedback.
- Establish a plan to explore continued study of education-related issues (i.e., learning styles, learning disability recognition & accommodation, classroom technological capabilities, etc.).
Serve as Assistant Instructor as Necessary:
- Participate in any phase of training as a temporary assistant instructor, especially in laboratory settings where additional coverage and supervision are needed.
Maintenance of Appropriate Learning Environment:
- Conduct monthly classroom and laboratory inspections, addressing any physical facility maintenance needs and general cleanliness.
- Monitor working conditions of training aids and report non-working equipment to Lead Instructor/Director of Training.
- Assist classroom instructors in the maintenance of training aids as necessary.
- Facilitate maintenance for campus facilities using available resources.
- Repair tools/equipment not directly associated with a particular class as needed.
Special Student Assistance:
- Be available to help students needing short-term tutoring.
- Consult with the Lead Instructor/Director of Training for students needing more extensive tutoring attention.
Safety Program:
- Assist in the development and implementation of a safety program.
- Monitor the safety program in classroom and laboratory areas, reminding students and instructors of safety requirements.
- Report repeated infractions of safety requirements to the Lead Instructor/Director of Training.
Peer Review and Feedback:
- Monitor each instructor and assistant instructor monthly, completing a feedback form of noted observations.
- Provide appropriate feedback for the instructor’s review, with recommendations for improvement.
Time Commitment:
- This position may require work on evenings and weekends to meet business needs.
- Assist with curriculum development, including topic research, text material acquisition, lesson plan development, and test writing.
- Refer all personnel issues to the Lead Instructor/Director of Training.
Student Issues:
- Work with students to resolve concerns, directing them to the appropriate party when necessary.
Leadership:
- Assume the duties of the Lead Instructor/Director of Training during their absence.
Required Knowledge, Education and Experience:
The successful applicant must have a High School Diploma or GED and the minimum required years of field experience, dependent upon the region.
Physical Environment:
- May stand for long periods of time.
- Use calculators, keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment as needed.
- Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required.
- Work may be completed in classroom or shop environments.
- Expect wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, toxic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
- May be required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
