Instructor - Metal Fabrication & Welding

Fox Valley Technical College is seeking an Instructor in Metal Fabrication & Welding. The position is a 38-week contract on a 40-hour per week schedule with a focus on welding training, curriculum development, and workforce engagement.

Job Description Summary

Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development of curriculum that meets the needs of students and employers utilizing instructional strategies that promote student success. This role involves working with welding representatives from business, service, industry, education, and government to provide training and technical assistance on a cost-recovery basis. Flexibility in the work schedule is essential.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Business/Industry/Community Instruction. Develop and deliver customized welding training for various clients and maintain involvement with business/industry/community. Seek and prepare revenue-producing contracts. Produce revenue for 100% cost recovery of position and course expenditures.
  • Learning Facilitation. Foster student learning by developing instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Create learning experiences that integrate instructional technologies and support multiple delivery methodologies (hybrid, in-person, virtual, online).
  • Assessment. Assess student learning and provide regular feedback. Use data to measure outcomes related to persistence, retention, completion, course success, and learning; design improvement strategies based on evidence.
  • Curriculum Development. Develop and revise curriculum and instructional materials that are competency-based, current, and aligned with employer expectations and college policy.
  • Classroom Management. Fulfill scheduled hours, maintain attendance and grade records, ensure safety and equipment security, and provide access to course materials.
  • Team Participation. Engage in division/department/team activities, planning, development, budgeting, and stay current with changes and initiatives.
  • Business & Community Engagement. Build relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners; participate in advisory committees and recruitment events to promote the College and programs.
  • Student Success & Support. Act as an advocate for students, collaborate with Student Services to retain students and close achievement gaps; advise on schedules, internships, and program information.
  • Professional Development. Continuously improve knowledge in emerging trends and teaching practices; maintain licensure and compliance requirements for accreditation.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Welding Engineering or related field. Based on experience, an Associate Degree or equivalent and willingness to obtain a Bachelor's Degree within a specified timeframe may be considered.
  • Minimum of two years of occupational experience in the field being taught, with at least one year in the last five years; four years preferred. One year of related experience may be waived with two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the last five years.
  • One year of demonstrated cost-recovery contract training and marketing preferred.
  • Teaching or training experience desirable.
  • Ability to plan, organize, instruct, and facilitate quality education programs, including curriculum development.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License.
  • Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure as required for accreditation.
  • GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, and GTAW setup and operation experience required.
  • Non-teaching industrial work experience in production welding or metal fabrication required.
  • Experience in programming and operation of robotic welders preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements

  • American Welding Society Certified Weld Inspector credential preferred; Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services Weld Test Conductor credential preferred.
  • Strong verbal communication skills and ability to adapt to changing demands and travel as needed.
  • Effective communication with diverse audiences and commitment to continuous instructional improvement.

Work Environment

  • Work must be completed in person in classroom and laboratory/shop environments.
  • Work may occur at any FVTC campus or regional center or at a customer site.

Physical Requirements

  • Full range of motion including sitting for long periods; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs; climbing stairs or ladders as applicable.
  • Fine motor skills for demonstrations and use of instructional technology; ability to perform repetitive motions (typing).
  • Travel may be required for off-site teaching or professional development; valid driver's license may be required.

Pay: $73,900.00 - $86,900.00. Pay is based on experience and other factors. Will consider candidates with different combinations of education and experience.
