Application Pool Notice
Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Adjunct faculty instructors are vital in fulfilling the college's mission, vision, core values, and institutional goals. Under the supervision of the Department Chairperson/Program Director/Director, adjunct faculty ensure the quality and integrity of academic programs, deliver curriculum and instruction, and participate in departmental and college professional development. They must adhere to all college policies, procedures, and guidelines including Employee Standards of Conduct.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
- Course Organization and Management
- Develop, evaluate, and revise course objectives to align with accreditation standards and ensure instructional quality.
- Utilize the college LMS (CANVAS) to organize and publish instructional materials before classes begin.
- Maintain an updated syllabus each semester via Concourse.
- Keep attendance records, submit grades timely, and provide feedback to students.
- Follow academic calendar procedures related to the Registrar’s Office.
- Counsel students regarding absences, failures, or make-up work as needed.
- Effective Delivery of Curriculum and Instruction
- Deliver curriculum ensuring rigor, integrity, and quality.
- Revise instructional materials and align courses with transfer and workforce standards.
- Use diverse teaching techniques and technology to foster active learning and critical thinking.
- Design activities considering individual student differences.
- Assess Student Learning and Pedagogical Methods
- Collaborate to improve learning outcomes and participate in institutional reviews.
- Measure and assess learning outcomes aligned with standards.
- Design assessments that demonstrate student achievement.
- Provide timely feedback and evaluate teaching practices.
- Faculty Non-teaching Responsibilities
- Hold office hours as scheduled.
- Attend classes punctually and participate in meetings.
- Complete required evaluations and training.
- Professional Development
- Participate in mandatory college and department training.
- Faculty Departmental Responsibilities
- Assist with assessment plans and participate in departmental activities and committees.
- Engage with external stakeholders and contribute to retention initiatives.
- College-wide Participation
- Engage in assessment and accreditation activities.
- May serve on community advisory councils.
- Other Duties
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-Year Welding Certificate
- Three years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 2-Year Welding Certificate
Successful candidates should demonstrate strong communication, adaptability, critical thinking, rapport-building, technological proficiency, and time management skills. They must adhere to ethical standards and balance teaching with other responsibilities.
Supervision and Work Conditions
- No supervisory responsibilities.
- Supervised by department and college leadership.
- Work is performed in a standard office environment with typical physical demands.
Safety and Special Conditions
- Follow safety protocols and report hazards.
- May require work outside regular hours or at different campuses.
