Overview
Training Department 973 – Robotic Welding Instructor - 2nd Shift
QP Training (D973) is seeking an organized, self-motivated Robotic Welding Instructor for the Training School. This role reports to the Supervisor of the Weld School and is key in training and qualifying Robotic welding students.
The Instructor will be part of a team responsible for training students in safety, Robotic welding, and related topics. Candidates should prioritize safety and procedure compliance, be self-starters, and possess strong communication skills. The ability to multi-task with a friendly approach is essential.
Responsibilities & Duties include:
- Instructing robotic programs, manuals, procedures, and drawings.
- Conducting hands-on training, assessments, and tests.
- Training on Cad/Cam systems.
- Instructing on Robotic welding machines and hazards.
- Final visual examination of Robotic welded joints.
- Assessing student performance and policy compliance.
- Collaborating with HR on student progress.
- Grading tests and quizzes to ensure understanding.
- Communicating with other shifts to coordinate work and address issues.
- Supporting special training projects and departmental goals.
Work Schedule: The candidate should expect:
- Approximately 2nd shift hours (3:00pm – 11:30pm), with flexibility.
- Overtime and short-term shift adjustments as needed.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 3 years of welding experience (GMAW, SMAW) or related qualifications.
- Mechanical and computer aptitude, with ability to interpret technical documents.
- Availability for all shifts and a modified work week.
- Basic math skills.
Preferred:
- Experience in structural or pipe RT welding.
- CAD/CAM training, Electric Boat Apprentice, Robotic system training.
- Experience in mechanized or track welding, UT/RT welding.
- Knowledge of computer programming or automation.
- Proficiency with PC and Windows environments.
- Understanding of Robotic System Operation and EB fabrication practices.
- Ship fitting or shipbuilding experience.
- Knowledge of NDT acceptance criteria.
- Experience in lifting and handling.
Skills

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Physical Qualifications: Climbing, color vision, crawling, heavy to light lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, twisting.
Environmental Attributes: Exposure to acids/alkalis, cold, dust, fumes, heat, noise, oily conditions, outdoor and indoor environments, wet conditions.
