Overview
Welding Inspectors are needed in multiple locations across the USA on a contract basis. Work is assigned on an as-needed basis and compensated for hours/days spent on the assigned work. The duration can range from a single day to several weeks. The inspector may sign an independent contractor/sub-contractor agreement (1099) with SGS North America Inc.
Responsibilities
- Ensure welds and welding processes comply with codes, standards, specifications, and project requirements by performing visual inspections and witnessing/verifying non-destructive tests and their reports.
- Monitor welding parameters and inspect materials and equipment.
- Review quality documentation including WPS/PQR, assess quality, and issue reports or recommendations for corrective actions to ensure safety and structural integrity of welded components.
- Verify welder qualifications and that welding procedures/specifications (WPS) are followed correctly.
- Ensure welding activities adhere to relevant industry codes (ASME, AWS, API) and contractual requirements.
- Conduct pre-weld, in-process, and post-weld inspections to identify defects and ensure quality.
- Perform visual inspections of welded joints, checking dimensions, penetration, and bead formation.
- Witness and interpret/verify non-destructive testing (NDT) results.
- Maintain documentation of inspection results and report any issues found.
Qualifications
- Must have at least one of the following: AWS, CWI, CSWIP, or API.
- Minimum of five (5) years of industrial welding-related inspection experience; at least two (2) years in Quality Assurance, vendor surveillance, or shop inspections.
- 5–10 years of industry experience (primarily Oil and Gas).
- Demonstrated knowledge of welding inspections; experience at manufacturer shops/facilities is preferred.
- Experience with welding inspections of pipelines and equipment such as pressure vessels and heat exchangers is a plus.
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday, typically 8–10 hours/day.
- Hourly rate: $40–$45/hr plus $0.70/km. No set schedule; inspector will be contacted as needed.
- Per diem may be considered for site visits beyond a 200-mile round trip from residence.
- The inspector will sign an independent contractor/sub-contractor agreement (1099) with SGS North America Inc.
