Overview

Lower Columbia College is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled professional to join the team as a part-time adjunct and substitute instructor in the Welding program. This position teaches courses including, but not limited to, stick (SMAW), wire feed (GMAW, FCAW), and TIG (GTAW). Courses are delivered in person but utilize online learning resources. Training will be provided on related learning management systems. We are currently accepting applications on an ongoing basis to teach or provide substitute instruction as needed for various class sections.

Responsibilities

  • Impart expertise, enthusiasm, and professionalism in the instruction of welding and related courses.
  • Teach and demonstrate a variety of welding and cutting processes for students.
  • Use effective classroom and instructional practices to prepare students for current welding industry standards.
  • Conduct classroom lectures, lab work and projects to prepare students with skills required for entry-level welding employment.
  • Ensure safety practices are used at all times, students are knowledgeable of safety techniques and personal protective equipment, and equipment is in safe working order.
  • Present content to a diverse student population with various learning styles and abilities.
  • Assess, evaluate, and document student learning and achievement of course competencies and outcomes.
  • Teach current learning outcomes and standards as identified in the course plan and syllabi.
  • Provide verbal and written feedback to students in a timely manner including grading of assignments.
  • Utilize technology and online programs such as Miller Open Book and Canvas to enhance student learning.
  • Provide individualized support to promote student success.

Qualifications

  • Experience with welding processes including SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW.
  • Ability to teach in-person courses with online learning resources; familiarity with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas).
  • Strong commitment to safety, student success, and welcoming a diverse student population.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Lecture rate is $80.68 per contact hour ($887.48 per credit).
  • Lab rate is $60.08 per contact hour ($1,321.76 per credit).
  • Field-based experience rate is $43.64 per contact hour ($1,440.16 per credit).
  • Welding sections are offered Monday–Thursday with the following times: 9:00am–12:15pm; 1:00pm–4:15pm; 5:30pm–8:45pm.
