Responsibilities
- Understand management expectations and company policies, including the employee handbook and code of conduct.
- Supervise hourly employees to monitor work habits, address concerns, ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement effective communication with hourly manufacturing personnel and management.
- Understand and enforce all 5S and safety requirements to maintain organization and prevent safety hazards or violations.
- Understand and review work orders for accuracy.
- Possess knowledge/experience in pipe fit-up and welding.
- Provide feedback, support, and training to hourly employees to facilitate efficient workflow and timely, accurate production.
- Direct the hourly workforce to ensure work is completed to meet quality standards and target production/ship dates.
- Coordinate with other shift leaders and manage the use of machinery and equipment to ensure a consistent workflow and meet scheduling needs.
- Coordinate QC and inspection requirements for manufactured product with QA supervisors and/or technicians.
- Review material availability and coordinate requirements with manufacturing buyers/planners.
- Coordinate finished parts production with the shipping department.
- Monitor manufacturing equipment, review maintenance schedules with the maintenance planner, and assist with maintenance operations when necessary.
- Provide feedback and daily progress reports to the operations manager; relay feedback to manufacturing engineering regarding fabrication processes and equipment when needed.
- Assist operations manager with evaluation of hourly manufacturing employees.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; minimum five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing/metal fabrication environment.
- Good working knowledge of various arc welding processes for carbon/stainless steel and alloy metals (e.g., FCAW, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW).
- Ability to read drawings and check dimensions; ability to determine and allocate resources required to produce a finished product based on drawings.
- Strong math background and detail-oriented.
- Strong mechanical aptitude; ability to understand how manufacturing equipment functions (e.g., forklifts, cranes, ironworkers, metal cutting equipment, rolling and forming machines, rubber molding/vulcanization equipment, welding equipment, hand tools).
- Clear, concise communication; good listening skills; leadership qualities; team player.
- Ability to analyze manufacturing processes and present ideas for cost savings and process/efficiency improvements.
- Ability to assess manufacturing issues and develop solutions/alternatives.
- Capable of performing a majority of tasks that production workers perform.
