Shop Crane Tech - Welding Experience at MGX Equipment Services
MGX Shop Crane Technicians are responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of crane equipment including mobile cranes and boom trucks. This position is located at the Dallas, Texas branch and reports to the Service Manager. Eligible for a $4,500 sign-on bonus (payable after 90 days of continuous service) and up to $1,500 per calendar year for the Tool Reimbursement Program. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
Essential Job Functions
- Operate and perform thorough inspection of cranes to diagnose defects.
- Diagnose, repair and troubleshoot mobile hydraulic and lattice cranes; repair hydraulic and electrical components.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges; read and interpret operating and parts manuals, blueprints and technical drawings.
- Test mechanical, electronic, electrical and hydraulic products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper operation and OEM compliance.
- Prepare for jobs by checking parts and drawings for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform thorough and accurate annual inspections.
- Complete working reports, hours reports, time sheets and expense reports.
- Work independently without direct supervision and provide excellent customer service.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Crane Mechanic/Technician preferred.
- Experience with mobile crane equipment, including Grove RT & TMS Cranes, Grove GMK European Cranes, Manitowoc EPIC and/or Traditional Cranes, National Boom Trucks preferred.
- Ability to read electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Welding experience with AWS D1.1 certification, or ability to obtain within 3-6 months after hire preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with a customer/client focus.
- Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record preferred.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Must purchase a full set of hand tools up to 1.5 inches.

Working Conditions
This is a full-time position with typical hours from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Overtime and weekend work may be required based on business conditions. The role may involve exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, odors and loud noises. Employees may be required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds. Vision requirements include near, far, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustments.
Pay & Training
Pay range is $20.00 - $35.00 per hour for non-bargaining employees, with bi-weekly pay. A personalized training plan and career path is provided within the first week of employment, outlining growth opportunities.
