Major and established company with a significant market share in manufacturing and a positive work culture is hiring for a Welding / Maintenance Technician. The technician is responsible for maintaining welding equipment and site property, performing weld repairs safely and efficiently. The location is southwest suburban Atlanta, GA. The role offers an attractive hourly rate, with a day shift from 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. Overtime is paid at time and a half, with weekly pay and an extra $1.00/hour for perfect attendance. An attractive 401K with matching is also offered.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are essential job functions:

Level I

  • Perform arc welding in all positions, selecting proper rods based on the base material.
  • Perform MIG welding in all positions, selecting proper wire and gases.
  • Perform TIG welding in all positions, selecting proper rods and gases.
  • Implement cutting principles using oxy fuel, plasma, or saws.
  • Perform basic fabrication following instructions and supplied prints.
  • Exercise safe work practices around equipment.

Level II

  • Without instruction, select rods, wires, gases, and pressures to optimize weld strength and performance.
  • Set up oxy fuel and plasma torches to minimize impact on workpieces.
  • Perform fabrication with minimal instruction, including some advanced fabrication and possibly basic machining.
  • Evaluate work environment for safety improvements.

Level III

  • Be certified in arc, MIG, and TIG welding in all positions.
  • Set up oxy fuel and plasma torches optimally without instruction.
  • Perform advanced fabrication and supply own prints, possibly including basic machining.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve safety practices.

Education and Experience

Must possess a state-certified welding inspector certification. Education requirements vary by level:

  • Level I: High school diploma or GED, 1-2 years related experience or equivalent.
  • Level II: High school diploma or GED, 2-4 years related experience or equivalent.
  • Level III: Technical training or associate’s degree, 6-8 years related experience or equivalent.

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and write routine reports. Basic math skills are required.

Physical Requirements

Regular use of hands, standing, walking, reaching, and occasional lifting up to 80 lbs. Ability to work in loud, hot, and potentially hazardous environments.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in loud environments, sometimes in high places or outdoors, with exposure to fumes, chemicals, and electrical hazards. Reasonable accommodations are available for disabilities.
