Overview

The Sports Medicine Manager will assist the Senior Director of Sports Medicine to provide elite level health care services to athletes at the UFC Performance Institute, collaborating with the wider UFCPI team on global initiatives. This role develops best-in-class injury prevention, rehabilitation, and return-to-play protocols for MMA athletes and works closely with domestic and global UFCPI teams to ensure efficient and effective delivery of all sports medicine services.

The Role And What You’ll Do

You will join a world-class interdisciplinary team of service providers with a proven track record of delivering world-leading support services to MMA and other professional athletes. You will be integral in supporting daily operations, as well as wider business-related initiatives on a global scale. Responsibilities include:

  • Oversees provision of elite level sports therapy services including evaluations, program planning and treatments that include manual, myofascial, modality and other therapeutic exercise interventions.
  • Manages integration of sports medicine services into an interdisciplinary model of care that includes strength and conditioning, performance nutrition, sports psychology and sport science.
  • Participates in establishing physical therapy care guidelines and interdisciplinary return to play protocols.
  • Manages return to play protocols in collaboration with other disciplines to facilitate healing and safe returns to competition.
  • Assists in the development of support systems to aid in athlete assessment, data collection, and data management.
  • Cultivates relationships with athletes, coaches, and gyms to distribute evidence-based relevant information.
  • Participates in ongoing training with athletes, coaches, and UFC PI staff members to ensure continued professional development and adherence to codes of conduct.
  • Travels and establishes a sports medicine clinic in event host hotel and delivers medical care to UFC athletes in the week preceding a fight event.
  • Works with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and commission physicians to oversee the treatment of injuries following fight events.
  • Oversees the medical holding room during events to guarantee the health and safety of athletes.
  • Aids the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in managing all injuries sustained during The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) events.
  • Oversees our athlete brain health initiative from a distance by contacting all athletes who have experienced KO/TKO incidents to offer brain health return-to-play protocols.
  • Delivers educational content to our partners to create a worldwide education platform.
  • Works with the partnership team to fulfill required deliverables or testimonials essential for maintaining partnerships.
  • Aids the Senior Director of Sports Science in carrying out essential research tasks, ensuring the completion of deliverables required by the partnership team.
  • Works with medical coordinators to ensure remote rehabilitation programs are current and achieving milestones.
  • Collaborates with medical coordinators to connect athletes with top-tier practitioners worldwide, for both surgical and non-surgical interventions.
  • Interviews, selects, and oversees all sports medicine interns for medical clinical rotations.
  • Oversees and attends to all emergency responses for UFC staff at the Performance Institute and UFC campus.
  • Performs other tasks, projects, and responsibilities as requested by the Director of Physical Therapy to establish a world-leading performance facility.

You Have These

  • Post Graduate Degree in Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, or ACBSP Chiropractor certification.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience working with professional, high level collegiate/amateur or tactical athletes in an integrated performance environment preferred.
  • Credentials focused on sport performance and sport rehab such as SCS, OCS, CSCS, CCSP, DACBSP, PES, CES are highly preferred.
  • Current state licensure in good standing within the USA required. Demonstrate ability to obtain Nevada state board licensure is required.
  • Awareness and proven ability to effectively collaborate with strength & conditioning staff on prevention, rehabilitation and return to performance efforts.
  • Certifications in manual therapy and soft tissue/myofascial techniques are highly preferred.
  • Professional experience in contact sports required, combat sports preferred.
  • Understanding of the demands of MMA sport (physical, physiology, gender-specific, weight categories, weight management, travel requirements, etc.).
  • Understanding of existing evidence-based research and implementation of new research areas to enhance the sport, athletes, and coaches.
