Overview
Under the general supervision of a Recreation Manager, the Sports Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, and management of youth and adult sports programs. This includes overseeing leagues, camps, academies, and clinics with a strong emphasis on basketball and volleyball. The Coordinator ensures that programs are well-structured, engaging, and provide participants with opportunities to develop skills, build confidence, and foster teamwork.
Key responsibilities include recruiting, training, and supervising part-time staff and coaches; coordinating schedules, facilities, and equipment; managing registration and communications; and maintaining strong relationships with athletes, families, and community partners. The Sports Coordinator also evaluates programs to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with LGS Recreation’s mission of building a healthy community through accessible and inclusive recreation.
The ideal candidate is passionate about sports, highly organized, and experienced in basketball and volleyball program delivery. Strong leadership, customer service, and community engagement skills are essential to growing participation and creating positive, lasting experiences for all players.
Qualifications
- Maintain online program registration and content
- Recruit, hire, train and supervise staff
- Oversee department budget and expenditures to meet fiscal objectives
- Manage day-to-day operations to ensure compliance with all LGS Recreation policies and procedures including safety, supervision, and emergency response
- Secure and monitor facilities usage
- Purchase and maintain supplies for activities
- Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve program goals
- Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all program stakeholders
- Respond promptly and professionally to all stakeholder inquiries
- Conduct program quality visits, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs
- Conduct staff reviews to assess, improve and applaud their performance
- Identify and hire independent contractors to ensure safe, fun, and developmentally appropriate class offerings
- Ensure vendor contracts are completed prior to class start date
- Process vendor payments accordingly
- Develop and monitor department budget
- Develop and maintain effective program marketing and communication pieces
- Organize special events
- Ensure buildings and equipment are kept cleaned and maintained to standards
- Evaluate and monitor program offerings and delivery of services
- Ensure compliance with all LGS Recreation policies and procedures including safety, supervision, and emergency response
- Other related duties as assigned
