Division/Department: Dartmouth Peak Performance (DP2) – Sports Nutrition

Position Purpose

The Dartmouth Peak Performance (DP2) Sports Dietitian provides comprehensive nutrition support to varsity student-athletes and teams. Reports to the Executive Associate Athletics Director for Peak Performance with dotted line reporting to the Coordinator of Nutritional Programs. Responsibilities include nutrition education and counseling for varsity student-athletes and teams, managing fueling station sites, and coordinating clinical care with the Nutritional Wellness Team.

Responsibilities

  • Individual and Team Performance Nutrition: Provides individual education and counseling for varsity student athletes on nutrition for training, competition, travel, recovery, weight management, hydration, supplementation, and immunity; translates current evidence into practical recommendations.
  • Educational Materials: Develops educational materials, presentations and learning opportunities for student athletes, performance staff, coaches, and teams.
  • Team Nutrition Support: Works with coaches and operations personnel to identify and meet team nutritional needs for training and competition (on-site fueling, travel snacks, team meals, menu development).

Integrated Support Team

  • DP2 Team Collaboration: Participates as part of the interdisciplinary performance team to support holistic health, wellness, and development of student athletes.
  • Clinical Collaboration: Coordinates with primary care clinicians, sports medicine, and athletics staff on nutrition issues related to medical concerns (e.g., disordered eating, diabetes, hypertension, lipid disorders, IBS, food allergies, celiac disease).

Organization & Administration:

  • Manages fueling station operations including budgeting, ordering, tracking, and supervising student, temporary, and volunteer workers.
  • Tracks and documents nutrition programming, services, and outcomes for continuous improvement and to maximize impact on performance outcomes.
  • Maintains knowledge of NCAA, Ivy League, Dartmouth College, and department rules and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Required Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree plus 1–2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Required Skills & Abilities:
    – Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or health-related field
    – At least one year of nutrition experience in a competitive athletic or tactical environment
    – Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
    – Licensed Dietitian in New Hampshire within 30 days of hire
    – Thorough knowledge of nutritional principles as they relate to athletic performance
    – Knowledge of clinical nutrition and care for disordered eating
    – Excellent oral and written communication; ability to adapt to diverse stakeholders
    – Ability to coordinate and manage student workers and volunteers
    – Willingness to work collaboratively within the IST (Integrated Support Team)
    – Strong time management with multiple projects and priorities
    – Ability to work a non-standard work week (nights, weekends, holidays)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in nutrition, exercise science or related field
  • Board-certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)
  • Previous nutrition experience in an NCAA DI institution
