The Greater Somerset County YMCA (GSCY) operates seven locations across three counties, serving upwards of 30,000 individuals with 100 full-time and 950 part-time employees and operating revenues to $22+ million.

Responsibilities

• Coaches in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans and practices accordingly.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with participants and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
• Responsible for all team communication, conveys information on practice and game schedules, and refers participants and parents to other programs as appropriate.
• Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports) and handles registrations and schedules for team games/tournaments and practices.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures; completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organizes and puts away needed equipment; reports damaged equipment.
• Trains and supervises team aides/volunteers as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements / Qualifications The Sports Instructor and Coach must have extensive knowledge of the game of basketball and be able to teach the fundamentals to youth participants, build a strong foundation for the sport, and build confidence and self-esteem for participants. The coach ensures a positive member experience by interacting with players in a fair and professional manner. Must demonstrate YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Must be 18 years or older and have at least 1 year experience coaching or 2 years playing basketball on a team.
