Overview
Looking for a way to earn some extra cash while exercising and enjoying a sport? This position provides a great opportunity for officiating multiple games each week and facilitating healthy community activity through fun and competition. Bellingham Parks & Recreation is accepting applications for the position of Adult Basketball Official for the 2025-2026 league season (October-May).
Position
Adult Basketball Officials officiate and score keep for adult basketball games and provide customer service. Games are on weekday evenings 6:00pm - 10:00pm. Employees can work up to 16 hours per week. Officials are paid $27.00 per game.
Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Officiate and score keep for adult basketball games.
- Communicate effectively with other employees and the general public using courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
- Punctual attendance.
- Knowledge of the desired sport (basketball).
Qualifications and Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job, including but not limited to:
- correctable visual acuity to read a stopwatch or scoreboard;
- fine finger dexterity to manipulate a stopwatch, score cards and handwritten forms;
- ability to run for long periods of time;
- ability to stand for long periods of time;
- ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Employment contingent upon passing a criminal convictions check and child and vulnerable adult abuse records check (Fair Hiring Practices).
- Verification of ability to work in the United States by date of hire.
Schedule, Terms, and Compensation
- Games are on weekday evenings 6:00pm - 10:00pm.
- Positions may work up to 16 hours per week.
- Pay is $27.00 per game.
- This position is not eligible for benefits, except as required by law.
- This position becomes represented by the Local 1937 bargaining unit after the completion of 1040 hours working an average of at least 12 hours per week, on an annual basis.
