Summary:
The Part-Time Sports Coordinator supports the day-to-day operations of youth sports programs at the YMCA of Central Ohio, including Bitty Sports and YMCA youth sports leagues in Soccer, Basketball, Hockey, Flag Football, and Baseball. This role helps create a safe, fun, and supportive environment for children ages 3–9, with a focus on early sports experiences for ages 3–5. Responsibilities include program setup and teardown, check-in, leading activities, and supervising volunteer coaches and sports officials to ensure program quality and alignment with YMCA values. The coordinator also assists with administrative tasks such as roster creation, communication with families and coaches, and supply distribution. Ideal candidates are energetic, organized, and passionate about youth development and teamwork.
Oversee and support the day-of operations for Bitty Sports and other youth sports programs, ensuring program quality through setup, check-in, facilitation, coaching support, and tear-down. Responsibilities also include distributing awards and maintaining a positive experience for all participants.
Supervise and guide volunteer coaches, ensuring they adhere to YMCA policies and procedures while delivering a high-quality program experience. While not serving as the primary coach, this role ensures volunteers are effectively leading activities and engaging participants.
Assist in the planning and administration of Bitty Sports and other youth sports leagues, including roster creation, communication with coaches and parents, jersey and supply ordering and distribution, marketing efforts, and other program logistics.
Supervise sports officials during games, providing real-time feedback and making adjustments as needed to ensure fair and consistent officiating.
Serve as the primary point of contact for program-related communication with parents, participants, YMCA staff, and community center partners, ensuring clarity, responsiveness, and a strong sense of community.
Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and viewpoints from all social and economic segments of the organization and community. A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism is expected from our staff.
Adheres to all policies and procedures related to abuse risk management, while reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors. Complies with all procedures related to supervision of you and follows the YMCA’s training and reporting requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum age of 21 years old.
High school diploma and/or at least 2 years of related experience and/or training. Bachelor's degree preferred.

Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
Experience with and a passion for working with groups of children ages 3-9. Focus on teaching basic beginner skills to ages 3-5.
Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification must be obtained within the first 60 days
Proven track record of developing authentic relationships with others.
Ability to foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
Highly self-motivated with demonstrated success in program development, project management, and coordinating volunteers.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal) competencies needed, including the ability to speak in public, interact with and motivate volunteers, community leaders and staff, and write content for program materials.
Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain detailed, accurate records.
An ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment and engage equally in administrative and outreach duties.
