The Director of Sports Information is responsible for leading all aspects of athletics communications, including but not limited to media relations and public relations. This role oversees the creation, distribution, and strategic development of content across multiple platforms, including social media, digital, print, external news outlets, and athletics.elmira.edu. The Director will also manage the hiring, training, and daily operations of the athletics communications team, which includes student employees, announcers, statisticians, and scorekeepers for athletic events. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics and ensures compliance with NCAA Division III conference regulations, Elmira College policies, and departmental standards.

Previous experience in sports communications, journalism, marketing or similar. Familiarity with appropriate software including Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Word, Excel, etc.), Stat Crew software, SIDEARM, Production Truck/HUDL, Final Cut Pro or equivalent video editing software and Microsoft Office Suite. Proficiency with graphic design and all social media platforms. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Creative and proficient with technology. Must be detail-oriented, have the ability to meet tight deadlines, delegate responsibilities and budget efficiently. Qualified applicants should also possess a Bachelor’s Degree and a valid driver’s license.

  • Develop, write, and distribute press releases to enhance the visibility and reputation of Elmira College Athletics.
  • Conceptualize, plan, and execute marketing, social media, and production schedules to deliver engaging content across all platforms.
  • Supply other college departments with athletic information, photography, and promotional materials as needed.
  • Responsible for nominating, determining and publishing weekly Players of the Week with the Empire 8, UCHC, UVC
  • Annually update online record books and bios for each team and athlete
  • Serve as primary media contact for athletic department
  • Supervise work-study workers, statistical staff, photographers, announcers and other athletics communications staff on game days
  • Create, keep & archive department photographic and statistical record filing systems and video records
  • Aids in the production of all athletic public relations materials, including press releases and graphics.
  • Responsible for statistical complication for each assigned team including game, season and career statistics.
  • Assist in promoting special events and recognition activities for intercollegiate athletics
  • Oversee the in-game live production video at assigned home sporting events.
  • Take individual headshots of every athlete annually, while handling media day for posed shots.
  • Create and coordinate live web streaming of college athletics events
  • Maintain membership with College Sports Communicators (CSC) for annual postseason awards
  • Oversee Video Board content in gymnasium and ice arena
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
