Note: This description notes that the individual will work exclusively for Turner's Sports Market Segment Group and may be performed remotely from any location in the United States.
The salary range for this position is estimated to be $90,000.00 - 145,000.00 annualized. Position Description: Prepare detailed estimates for the project based on the design documents, narratives, and specifications, focusing on the Mechanical/Plumbing/Fire Protection trades.
Reports to: Preconstruction Manager / MEP Manager
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Communicate mechanical estimate and scopes of work to Turner staff, architects, engineers, and owners.
- Prepare quantity take-offs, analysis, estimates, and studies for Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection items from conceptual design through completed construction documents. Preliminary design work may be required to complete conceptual estimates.
- Analyze existing site conditions and contract documents to determine required scope not already indicated.
- Develop relationships with local material suppliers and equipment vendors to solicit accurate and current pricing of plumbing fixtures, HVAC equipment, piping and sheet metal material, and other material pricing.
- Develop relationships with local Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection trade partners to build and maintain a list of qualified bidders for projects.
- Perform constructability analysis of project documents and communicate design and constructability issues to the project team.
- Provide first costs analysis and participate in life cycle analysis with the Design team.
- Address General Conditions and General Requirements items in the estimate, including temporary heating/cooling and estimating natural gas consumption during construction.
- Coordinate equipment pricing with SourceBlue for Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection estimates.
- Develop value analysis to define cost-efficient alternatives to the proposed systems, materials, and equipment.
- Serve as liaison with engineers, design consultants, trade partners, Turner staff, and owner representatives to resolve issues related to MEP preconstruction efforts.
- Prepare estimates and proposals for lump sum, GMP, and Cost Plus contracts.
- Participate in estimate reviews with Design team and client.
- Participate in project hand-off and proper transfer of knowledge from Preconstruction to Operations.
- Prepare scope requisitions for bidding or procurement of MEP systems and coordinate with fellow estimators to eliminate gaps/overlaps.
- Evaluate subcontractor proposals relative to scope of work; manage risk of scope gaps.
- Assist project staff in evaluating large change orders.
- Gather and analyze MEP bid data using Turner system breakdown sheets and maintain historical cost data.
- Utilize quantification and cost estimating tools/software used by the local business unit.
- May supervise Assistant MEP Estimators, Estimating Assistants, and/or Interns.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field and minimum of 3 years related Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection estimating experience, or equivalent
- Knowledge of Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems
- Ability to interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedule to formulate cost analyses
- Ability to collaborate with vendors, trade partners, and project team members
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; ability to adopt quickly to new technology
- Supervisory experience desired
