About the position
West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Orthopaedics seek a Sports Medicine Surgeon (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will practice in the area of orthopaedic sports surgery. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the candidate will be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows in the clinic, operating room, and didactic settings. Interest and success in scholarly research is expected. This is a full-time faculty position with an emphasis on caring for patients with a wide variety of sports medicine related injuries.
Qualifications
Applicants must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical licensure. Candidates must have completed an orthopaedic surgery residency and sports medicine fellowship and be board certified/eligible in orthopaedic surgery. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.
Our Department of Orthopaedics has approximately 40 full-time faculty in all sub-specialty areas of Orthopaedics including spine, total joint replacement, sports medicine, foot and ankle, hand, pediatrics, trauma, musculoskeletal oncology, and basic science. Our faculty are fellowship trained and respected nationally, but we emphasize more than surgical expertise — our mission is that as the Department of Orthopaedics at West Virginia University, our thriving, collaborative team of musculoskeletal specialists is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care by achieving excellence in patient outcomes and continually improving our clinical operations. Academically, we are committed to providing a comprehensive orthopaedic education program that attracts exceptional applicants and encourages the personal and professional development of residents, faculty, and learners at all levels. We are leaders in research, conducting efficient, collaborative, and translational research that improves patient outcomes and advances musculoskeletal research from bench to bedside. Our sports practice serves West Virginia University athletic programs, working closely with coaches, athletic trainers, and other healthcare professionals.
