Summary

Provide physical therapy services to patients/clients with impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes. Offer prevention and wellness services, including screenings and health promotion. The senior serves as a resource for the team, participates in orientation of new staff, and in teaching activities for students. The physical therapist works within practice guidelines as defined by North Carolina state law.

Work Performed

  • Demonstrate sound clinical reasoning in evaluation, diagnosis, and care planning.
  • Collaborate with patients and families to develop and update care plans, set goals, and establish discharge plans tailored to individual needs.
  • Understand and incorporate the role of physical therapy in the context of the patient's overall needs and environment.
  • Exhibit age-appropriate competency skills.
  • Follow intervention protocols and adjust plans as needed.
  • Discharge patients when goals are achieved or services are no longer necessary, with follow-up as needed.
  • Maintain competency in evaluations specific to your practice area.
  • Meet productivity standards and work collaboratively to optimize team performance.
  • Utilize support personnel effectively.
  • Participate in patient coverage across departments as necessary.
  • Assess learning needs and provide timely education to patients and caregivers.
  • Use appropriate educational methods and adjust based on patient response.
  • Ensure patients and families understand how to access further interventions.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation.
  • Deliver clear oral reports.
  • Perform data collection within specified time frames.
  • Meet peer review standards.
  • Provide clinical education for students with 1-2 students for long-term rotations (for therapists with >1 year experience).
  • Participate in outreach and research activities as requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to push-pull, lift-carry, and transfer patients.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree or certification in physical therapy; Master's or Clinical Doctorate preferred.

Experience: None beyond required education; more experience may be preferred.

Licensure: Current Physical Therapist license in North Carolina.
