Overview
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. With general guidance of the Sports Director, the site lead oversees game and practice locations. The role adheres to the child care policies and YMCA goals and directs each game in accordance with the mission of the YMCA of San Antonio and the standards of all regulatory agencies.

Essential Functions
- Manage game and practice times and referee games when needed.
- Ensure sites have the needed equipment before games and practices begin, and that equipment is taken down at the end of the day.
- Have knowledge of game rules and attend sport-specific training as required.
- Monitor and respond to horseplay.
- Promote participant safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Provide answers to questions or seek others who can assist.
- Develop and maintain communication with parents, players, and coaches.
- Enforce all YMCA rules and policies.
- Keep current on all game and practice schedule changes.
- Maintain regular communication with the Sports Director regarding site needs and questions from parents or participants.
- Respond promptly to emergencies.
- Maintain cleanliness of facility sites.
- Maintain a courteous, friendly attitude and be a positive role model.
- Attend all trainings and meetings related to the position.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Understand basic principles of sports programs (e.g., basketball, baseball, soccer, football, volleyball).
- Demonstrate diplomatic interpersonal skills.
- Promote caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in relationships with staff, YMCA members, and participants.
- Ability to relate to children and parents; maintain professional appearance.
- Follow YMCA policies and decisions in a supportive manner.
- Ability to intervene in conflict resolution and serve as a primary responder.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio area.
- Certifications required within the first week: Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens, Defensive Driving, Hazardous Communications.
- Certifications required within the first 60 days: YMCA-approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Work is performed in a fast-paced outdoor or indoor gymnasium environment and may involve off-site locations.
- Visual acuity for monitoring potential hazards for children.
- High levels of alertness and concentration; ability to intervene physically if necessary.
- Ability to make sound decisions under noise and activity.
- Repetitive stooping and bending with occasional lifting up to 20 pounds; ability to stand and walk for long periods.
- Ability to hear, speak, and understand others and operate keyboards and writing instruments as needed.
