Overview
Sports Coordinator - French Creek YMCA at YMCA of Greater Cleveland. The program-focused role involves planning, delivering, supervising and monitoring designed programs for the branch while upholding the YMCA mission and core values.
Responsibilities
- Run, plan and schedule all aspects of assigned programs.
- Recruit, develop and coordinate volunteers within programs.
- Ensure participants are properly registered and payments are collected to participate.
- Maintain the safety of all participants, know emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment.
- Maintain positive rapport with participants and parents.
- Represent YMCA in appropriate business & community groups; provide timely publicity and build relationships with local schools and other groups as directed.
- Conduct programs in accordance with YMCA of Greater Cleveland standards and guidelines.
- Promote and incorporate YMCA core values and character development in programming; assist in development and implementation of programming for designated sessions.
- Notify supervisor of problems related to program outcomes, impact, tracking and the class overall.
- Gather periodic participant feedback through written evaluations provided by the Program Director.
- Be actively involved with members, volunteers and staff in a positive, friendly manner that demonstrates YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
- Follow all established policies and procedures, including safety practices and personnel policies.
- Participate in and support association and branch events and fundraising activities.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Supervise employees in assigned accountabilities; monitor site operation and scheduling; verify time sheets and hours worked.
- Identify training needs and initiate development activities for supervisees; recommend personnel actions as appropriate; secure and maintain required trainings and/or certifications.
- Ensure new employees complete orientation and training; provide on-the-job training as required.
- Define and communicate duties and performance standards for direct reports; ensure understanding of acceptable performance.
- Notify Department Director of job openings; assist in hiring and interview process.
- Keep employees informed about association and branch events.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s Degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience; minimum of 1 year experience in programming/program growth (youth-oriented programming and sports).
Certification(s) and Requirements: Adhere to Bloodborne Pathogen standards and attend annual training. CPR and First Aid certification and safety training required within 30 days of hire.
Technical Skills and Knowledge: Program expertise to instruct/lead class(es) or lead teams when instruction is unavailable. Excellent PC skills and experience with standard business software; strong customer service, verbal and written communication skills. Self-motivated team player; ability to multitask in a changing environment; commitment to YMCA mission and values; ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and abilities; willingness to be a mandated reporter for signs of child abuse and neglect. Adhere to reporting requirements: complete Suspected Child Abuse/Neglect reporting form, contact children protective services, and notify supervisor, branch executive, risk management and HR as applicable.
Physical Demands: Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, instruct and bend for long periods; ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
