Responsibilities
Registered Nurse (RN)
New $10,000 Sign-on Bonus
Position based at Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health in Norfolk, Virginia. The hospital provides acute, residential, and Partial Hospitalization treatment for children and teens exhibiting behavioral and/or mental health concerns. The RN is responsible for planning, directing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of nursing care on the assigned unit for residents and patients, adhering to Nursing Standards and Policies, Facility Policies and Procedures and the Nurse Practice Act.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for nursing care based on the nursing process and in compliance with facility policies and procedures.
- Monitor, report, and document the residents'/patients' behavior and physiological status.
- Administer medications and perform treatments/procedures in compliance with facility and nursing services policies and procedures.
- Guide the response to residents who are behaviorally out of control or who may be experiencing a medical or behavioral crisis in collaboration with the Director of Nursing, Medical Staff with delineated privileges and Physician.
- Demonstrate clinical competence in the delivery of direct patient care and the implementation of the milieu management program.
- Report accurately and concisely to oncoming shifts regarding conditions of residents both medically and psychiatrically.
Qualifications
- Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia or compact authority, as a Registered Nurse.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program with active licensure and registration by the Virginia Board of Nurse Examiners, as a Registered Nurse; Bachelor or Master degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the education, knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Experience as a Registered Nurse, providing clinical care, generally equivalent to 1 or more years; experience in behavioral health strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of general addictions and psychiatric nursing process, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development, limit setting crisis and behavior management strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in the use of computer systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel).
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the Joint Commission/CMS requirements, and both state and federal regulatory requirements strongly preferred.
- Must be able to handle multiple competing tasks, with minimum supervision, and take initiative on matters of revolving urgency.
- CPR certification required.
