Department Summary
Facilities is a service organization responsible for the planning, renovation, maintenance, and repair of University buildings and facilities; and the provision of utilities, vehicle rental, refuse collection, custodial and other services essential to the mission of the University of North Texas.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for the cleaning and sanitation work of the University, or on special projects. Those who work an overnight shift may earn additional compensation. Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and buffing floors; cleaning and vacuuming carpets; dusting furniture, walls, ceilings, windows, and other surfaces; cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and fixtures; removing trash and maintaining waste receptacles; transporting recyclables; unlocking doors as needed; moving furniture for cleaning; and observing safety and security precautions.
Minimum Qualifications
There are no minimum education or experience requirements. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to follow oral and written instructions; read and understand labels on chemicals; apply mathematical concepts to complete tasks (e.g., measuring and mixing chemicals); knowledge of cleaning methods and proper use of cleaning equipment; ability to operate vacuum cleaners, floor waxers, floor buffers, and other cleaning equipment; physical ability to stand, stoop, move cleaning equipment, and lift materials; ability to recognize and report maintenance needs; knowledge of safety and security precautions.
Preferred Qualifications
Stable employment record. Physically able to perform work involving standing, stooping, operation of cleaning equipment, and lifting trash and equipment.

Job Duties

- Ensures proper care in the use of custodial equipment and cleaning supplies. Maintain custodial closet and cart in neat and clean manner.
- Trash is removed daily, disposed of in the proper locations for removal and disposal.
- Communicate with custodial supervisors daily.
- Report inappropriate actions, injuries, safety issues, and work repairs.
- Follow all departmental cleaning standards provided by supervisory leadership.
Physical Requirements
Communicating with others to exchange information. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like. Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another. Operating machinery and/or power tools. Lifting and Moving objects up to 20 pounds. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Environmental Hazards
Exposure to fumes or airborne particles. Noisy environments. Work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
