Role: Night Shift Schedule, working from 5:30 PM – 4:30 AM, with designated days off on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Responsibilities

Shift Management & Production Planning

  • Take the weekly production plan and targets from the production planner and create an effective shift-level production plan for the incoming shift, including unfinished activities due to attendance, quality, or shorts. Conduct a daily handoff with the incoming Shift Manager to avoid gaps or miscommunications.
  • Communicate the shift’s production plan and set clear goals for Supervisors.
  • Adjust the shift’s production plan as needed in response to product quality issues, shorts, or staffing levels.
  • Minimize downtime by maintaining visibility of production activities, proactively spotting issues, and solving problems to prevent shutdowns. Require downtime documentation from Supervisors and review actions taken.
  • Track progress against the production plan and work with Supervisors to ensure targets are met.
  • Assign tasks to Gatekeepers to drive data accuracy for production and inventory counts, and to keep coolers and freezers organized.
  • Attend cross-department huddles daily to relay goals and important messages.
  • Share the production plan with FSQA and Warehouse managers to enable cross-functional support.
  • Collaborate with FSQA and Warehouse to resolve cross-functional issues, following standard processes for shorts callouts, investigations, and rejections.
  • Own safety, on-time-in-full shipments, and meals per hour.

Performance Management and Leadership Development for Supervisors

  • Ensure timely performance reviews and appropriate documentation/wording.
  • Maintain high performance expectations, place the right people in the right roles, and work with HR on underperformers.
  • Solicit feedback from site leaders on team performance.
  • Conduct quarterly performance reviews for production Supervisors and provide prompt feedback.
  • Model strong leadership and develop effective leadership skills in Supervisors.
  • Recognize strong performance and positive behavior through NTF submissions and formal recognition.
  • Maintain team structure and ensure Supervisors hold routine check-ins and team huddles; step in when a Supervisor is absent.
  • Foster a coaching culture by providing positive and developmental feedback to Supervisors and leads to relay to associates.
  • Partner with HR and/or temp agencies to manage shift staffing and time/attendance issues.
  • Manage time-off requests for Supervisors and escalate associate and lead time-off requests as needed.
  • Work with Supervisors and HR on disciplinary actions for hourly employees.
  • Communicate performance issues with temps to temp agencies and Home Chef HR.

Accountability for Team Performance, Safety, and Best Practices

  • Make shift decisions based on SOPs and department guidance for events like adverse events or roadblocks.
  • Enforce Home Chef GMPs and operational guidelines.
  • Ensure the plant is clean and free of safety issues.
  • Coach Supervisors on safety investigations and escalate plant structural issues; ensure incident reports are completed on time.
  • Support SQF, quality programs, and Safety compliance.
  • Know and uphold Home Chef Cardinal Rules of Safety and Food Safety.
  • Maintain a focus on safety in all business decisions; lead shift safety meetings.
  • Complete Behavioral Safety Observations, Near Misses, and Food Safety call-outs.
  • Participate in Incident Review Board meetings and follow up on corrective actions; assist with root cause analysis as needed.
  • Support Safety goals and be accountable for injury rates on the shift.
  • Complete required training on time and ensure timely completion of compliance and leadership training with the team.
  • Participate in all mandated emergency activities and maintain a strong safety record and metrics for the shift.
  • Collaborate with Continuous Improvement to identify non-value-added work and implement efficiency improvements.

SOPs & Audits

  • Know all production SOPs and cross-department coordination SOPs at the shift level.
  • Set expectations for strict SOP adherence across production processes for Supervisors and Leads.
  • Foster a culture of SOP feedback and work with CI to revise SOPs.
  • Lead process changes on the floor during SOP rollouts.
  • Actively participate in the CI-defined SOP audit program.

Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in a related field (e.g., Business Administration) or equivalent level of operations experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of successful managerial leadership in a fast-paced environment.
  • Track record of driving KPIs and consistently meeting or exceeding goals.
  • Experience in developing team members through leadership and management.
  • Strong track record of people leadership and culture improvement.
  • Proficient with Excel, ERP systems, and mobile technology.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for up to 12 hours in a cold environment (up to 40°F).
  • Must be available to respond to work-related inquiries during off hours (nights and weekends).
  • Flexibility to adapt processes quickly and meet day-end goals.
  • Strong safety leadership and ability to foster a safety-focused culture.
  • Full knowledge of SQF, HACCP, and GMP programs.
