Position: Housekeeping Manager

The Housekeeping Manager performs inspection duties in accordance with company standards to ensure satisfactory performance. Duties include:

  1. Follow the instructions of the Rooms Director and/or the Operations Manager to maintain company standards of cleanliness throughout the rooms department.
  2. Supervise the section housekeepers and housekeeping aides (housepersons).
  3. Relay information concerning room status to the housekeeping office and front desk.

Other essential duties and responsibilities include the following (additional duties may be assigned):

  1. Assign work to Housekeeping staff and train staff in housekeeping duties.
  2. Address guest complaints regarding housekeeping service or equipment.
  3. Report need for room repairs to the housekeeper.
  4. Inspect carpets, drapes, and furniture for stains, damage, or wear.
  5. Check and count linens and supplies and communicate needs to housekeeping.
  6. Record inspection results and inform Housekeeping staff of inadequacies.
  7. Verify staffing is appropriate for business levels.
  8. Operate the property management system.
  9. Handle lost and found inquiries and related procedures.
  10. Check vacant, expected departure, and discrepant rooms.
  11. Issue and inventory keys.
  12. Communicate with appropriate departments when necessary.
  13. Conduct pre-shift meetings.
  14. Clean rooms and assist in laundry when necessary.
  15. Inspect linen closets and storage areas.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises hourly employees in the Housekeeping Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting with interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience: College degree preferred. At least two years of housekeeping experience and three years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Must be able to communicate clearly with guests, customers, supervisors, and fellow employees in both English and Spanish.

Reasoning Ability: Must be able to analyze routine data to make appropriate judgments regarding the process of inspecting/cleaning guest rooms and supervisory duties.

Physical Demands: Must be able to push/pull/lift up to 50 pounds. Requires walking, standing, bending, and manual dexterity.

Hours: Due to the seasonal nature of the hospitality industry and 24/7 guest services, employees may work rotating shifts, night shifts, and/or overtime. Hours may be reduced depending on the season.
