Location Description

The Elms Hotel & Spa is a historic property with 153 guest rooms and 11,000 sq ft of meeting space, located in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. The team culture emphasizes growth, teamwork, and professionalism across departments including guest services, food & beverage, housekeeping, and spa & wellness.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Visually inspect VIP rooms, guest rooms and corridors for cleanliness and appearance. Prepare work orders for carpet cleaning and staffing needs as required.
  • Train and monitor performance of room attendants and housepersons. Provide organization, instruction, guidance, communication, and judgment while upholding high standards. Prepare work performance reports and ensure tasks are completed within the shift.
  • Inventory furniture, fixtures, equipment and supplies. Maintain clean, neat, and stocked carts and linen/supply closets according to guidelines. Ensure VIP supplies are in place in VIP rooms.
  • Report maintenance deficiencies via work orders. Escalate emergencies (e.g., plumbing or lighting issues) to the maintenance department.
  • Expedite special guest requests (e.g., extra towels, blankets, pillows).

Supportive Functions

  • Assist room attendants and housepersons with securing supplies and tools as needed.
  • Report suspicious activity or hazardous conditions to Security.
  • Respond to guest questions and provide directions and information as requested.
  • Provide instruction and guidance for guest and employee safety in emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned, including assisting Room Attendants when necessary.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Ability

  • Physical ability to lift, reach, bend, stoop, stand, walk, climb stairs, and move heavy equipment.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English to complete forms and meet guest needs.
  • Ability to provide clear direction and training to subordinates.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to exercise judgment and supervise subordinates.

Qualification Standards

Education: Any combination of education and experience; High School education preferred.

Experience: Minimum six months supervisory experience or one year of comparable housekeeping experience.

Licenses or Certificates: None.

Grooming: Neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance (standards available).

Other: Knowledge of other languages desirable.

Note: The hotel operates seven days a week and around the clock; schedules may vary to meet business needs.
