Compensation: $20.00 - $30.00 / hour

Overview

The Housekeeping Aide maintains the cleanliness of the hospital and office buildings in a safe, sanitary, orderly and attractive manner, free from offensive odors. Performs daily cleaning of occupied patient areas, nursing stations, work areas, halls, lounges, storage areas, laboratories, bathrooms, offices, and other assigned areas, in accordance with standard procedures of the Environmental Services Department and the facility’s objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all patient area cleaning is complete per guidelines and procedures. Wash and wipe mattresses, remove items from bedside, and clean bed areas, furniture, floors, walls, closets, and restrooms per guidelines. Ensure clean linens are placed on beds using proper bed-making procedures. Report needed repairs to the Engineering Department.
  • Clean non-patient areas as assigned, including washing, dusting, mopping, vacuuming floors; cleaning windows, fixtures, furniture, bathrooms, lights, screens, and blinds. Refill dispensers as needed. Report items needing repair or correction to the Engineering Department.
  • Collect and transport soiled linen promptly; ensure it is securely tied in plastic bags and stored in locked areas for pickup.
  • Collect trash, place in closed containers, clean and relines trash cans, and dispose of trash in appropriate dumpsters.
  • Handle infectious waste per policy: double-bag, securely tie, label, and dispose of in designated biohazard bins; keep glass buckets covered and stored appropriately; keep dumpsters locked and secured.
  • Demonstrate ownership of work with independent judgment and decision making; provide excellent customer service at all times; follow infection control procedures and HIPAA compliance.

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications: Familiar with proper cleaning techniques. Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Ability to multitask and prioritize work. Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job. Hospital Fire and Life Safety Card (Los Angeles City Employees only).
  • Preferred Qualifications: One-year environmental services experience. Bilingual skills. Previous healthcare experience.
