A 3rd Shift CNC Machinist opportunity is available in Yakima, WA. The role involves setting up and operating CNC and manually controlled machines such as lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, and gun drills to manufacture aerospace parts to drawing specifications. A high school diploma or GED is required, with 10+ years of mill-turn machining experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Setting up and operating CNC and manually controlled machines to manufacture aerospace parts to sketch.
• Using machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments to verify drawing/work order requirements.
• Performing standard shop computations related to dimensions and tooling.
• Monitoring and verifying quality in accordance with manufacturing planning, quality plans, and engineering drawings.
• Ensuring part quality by adjusting machine controls as necessary.
• Meeting production deadlines by following the manufacturing schedule and procedures.
• Collaborating with support resources and cell leaders to resolve production problems.
• Maintaining a safe working environment by adhering to safety policies and contributing to risk mitigation efforts.
• Contributing to team effort with a positive attitude.
• Continuously seeking ways to improve manufacturing efficiency and effectiveness.
• Observing machine operation to detect malfunctions and following best machining practices.
• Cleaning machines, tooling, and parts and performing TPM requirements.
• Participating in Lean, 5S, TPM, PM, and process improvement initiatives.
• Physical duties as required (standing, walking up to 8 hours/day; vision requirements; lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally).
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or equivalent required.
• Two-year technical degree in a related field preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in mill-turn machining.
• CNC grinding background and aerospace industry experience.
• Experience with precision measuring tools, gauges, and inspection devices.
• Ability to read part drawings/blueprints, dimensioning, and tolerancing including GD&T.
• Shop math proficiency; basic understanding of GD&T, CNC machine tools, G-code, and DNC controls.
• Machine preventative and corrective maintenance and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and waste reduction concepts.
