Role Description

Position summary and details related to the Machinist 3rd Shift - TDI. Work involves operating machines in the work center, handling multiple machines, tool setup and inspection, and contributing to meeting production goals with adherence to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Operate all machines in the work center
  • Operate more than one machine at a time
  • Power up and home machines
  • Understand coolant percentage mixtures
  • Perform basic housekeeping of the cell (5S)
  • Use gauges (calipers, dial indicators, micrometers, depth gauges, bore gauges, etc.), pneumatic tools, and hand tools to perform and inspect work
  • Understand and use tool data (offsets, wear, etc.) to ensure acceptable parts
  • Review, understand, and follow routers, procedures, specifications, and other instructions
  • Utilize geometric tolerancing
  • Ensure all company paperwork is filled out accurately
  • Fully understand blueprints
  • Read and understand inspection sheets; identify revision levels
  • Produce error-free products through in-process inspections
  • Identify nonconforming hardware
  • Meet production goals
  • OQP certified; cross-train
  • Understand safety and machining hazards
  • Work under general direction with minimal coaching in a team environment
  • Attend CCC meetings daily; program management in DNC system
  • Change tooling; identify and use inserts
  • Set up and calibrate inspection devices/gages (e.g., bore gages, bar gages, height gages)
  • Inspect and sign-off on the first part
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Comply with GE policies and the Integrity: The Spirit and The Letter guide
  • Provide excellent service to coworkers, customers, and vendors
  • Collaborate and participate in a team environment; keep the team informed of progress

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 6 months of manufacturing-related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior machining and production experience
  • Ability to read blueprints, routers, and part numbers; read and follow work instructions
  • Knowledge of documenting and scrapping hardware
  • Ability to interpret specifications, blueprints, and written instructions
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Basic math and converting between metric and imperial units
  • Basic computer skills

Additional Information

  • May stand 6 to 8 hours per day and perform tasks requiring upper body movement
  • May lift/move up to 15 lb frequently and up to 35 lb occasionally; heavier items with assistance
  • Exposure to moving machinery, dust, fumes; OSHA-compliant PEL levels maintained
  • Noise levels typically moderate; hearing protection may be required in some areas
