Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for a Custodial Worker.

Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Perform general cleaning of lobbies, offices, conference rooms, public restrooms, floors, dining room floors, casual seating in dining areas, dorms, apartments, computer labs, multi-purpose rooms, stairwells, laundry rooms, study areas, and other assigned areas, including cleaning apartments upon request and entrance ways to dorms and apartments, which includes cleaning glass.
  2. Clean fixtures and restock supplies.
  3. Clean windows, walls, doors, stairs, desks, chairs, tables, blackboards, and related furniture and fixtures.
  4. Maintain floors and steps through sweeping, vacuuming, extracting, and mopping.
  5. Properly dispose of trash, biohazards, and recyclables.
  6. Replace light bulbs as needed.
  7. Set up and arrange furniture and equipment for classes and events.
  8. Work safely with equipment, vehicles, cleaning fluids, chemicals, and other agents.
  9. Report safety hazards and maintenance needs.
  10. Report suspicious activities to authorities.
  11. Assist in snow removal from entrances and walkways.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Knowledge of computers, internet, and email systems.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in industrial or commercial cleaning preferred.
  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills preferred.
  • Experience with computers and email software preferred.

Work Hours and Travel

  • Includes first, second, and third shifts.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Travel within the university and occasional offsite travel using university vehicles.
