Core Room Operator
A Core Room Operator works in foundries or manufacturing plants that produce castings. Their main job is to create the cores used in the metal casting process. Cores are sand or resin-based shapes placed inside a mold to form hollow sections or specific internal features in a casting.
Typical responsibilities of a Core Room Operator:
- Core Making Operate core-making machines and equipment to produce sand or resin cores according to specifications.
- Mold Preparation Assemble and prepare cores for insertion into molds, ensuring proper shape, size, and finish.
- Mixing Materials Measure, mix, and handle sand, resins, binders, or other chemicals used to make cores.
- Quality Inspection Check cores for cracks, defects, or imperfections and make repairs or adjustments as needed.
- Equipment Operation Set up, monitor, and adjust core-making machines, ovens, and curing equipment.
- Safety & Compliance Follow all foundry safety rules, including handling of hot materials, chemicals, and heavy molds.
- Documentation Record production counts, material usage, and defects for reporting.
- Housekeeping Keep the core room clean, organized, and free of excess sand or debris.
