Position Summary
Packaging pretzels into the proper bags or boxes, ensure the bag or box is coded correctly and ensure the packaged material is acceptable to our customers. Hand Tying and Hand Slicing product (pretzels) to meet customers’ expectations and quality expectations while effectively keeping the line in motion to limit downtime.
Essential Functions
- Weighing raw and packaging products maintaining product integrity to product specifications
- Measuring raw and finished product maintaining product integrity to product specifications
- Capable of using a digital scale to weigh product
- Capable of understanding units of measure to measure the length of the product
- Adjust equipment when product is out of specifications
- Hand scoring and tying pretzels
- Hand loading pretzels to pans
- Hand loading boards of product onto carts
- Moving racks of pretzels to and from the proofers and retarders
- Putting raw pretzel trays on the tray unloaders
- Scoring top of pretzels
- Inspecting pretzels throughout the process and removing cripples/defects
- Stand for up to 8 hours per shift with breaks/lunches and maintain an acceptable pace
- Capable of withstanding temperature ranges of 55 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit
- Capable of counting to 130 and demonstrate basic math skills
- Capable of climbing a ladder to an elevated platform of 10 feet to un-jam cartons
- Capable of climbing over conveyors to un-jam product at counters or bends of conveyors
- Maintain a sanitary work area
- Carry raw materials into the packing room (boxes, tape, bags) and handle associated weights (approx. 50 lbs per full box; 2–3 boxes per shift; 800–1500 empty bags per shift)
- Capable of lifting by hand a 25 lb box of pretzels to a height of 7 feet (up to ~1500 boxes per shift)
- Insert plastic bags into cartons, open bags, and drape them over the sides; lift empty box/bag combination to a height of 4 feet and place on a skate wheel conveyor
- Reach over a conveyor to lift a full box toward yourself to apply a twist tie and place on another conveyor
- Communicate effectively with managers and teammates
- Capable of using mechanical and hand taping equipment after instruction
- In the event of mechanical breakdown, carry full boxes to the hallway and palletize by hand to a height of 6 feet
- Lift a 12 lb box to a height of 7 feet in hand-pack area
- Insert pretzels by hand into hand-pack cartons efficiently and smoothly
- Work wearing rubber gloves (GMP requirement) and company-provided hairnets (GMP acceptable)
- Read labeling instructions to ensure proper box labeling
- During gaps and downtime, keep the area clean; housekeeping with relief shifts during first hour and last 30 minutes of the shift
- Cut and load dough with a dough knife; use a clean-cut resistant glove
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor
All employees in this area are responsible for performing these jobs and are rotated at a maximum weekly cadence.
Employee is responsible for following and/or implementing/supporting/maintaining Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Defense, Food Safety and SQF programs.

Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
