PAY RATE: $26.93 - $28.34 PER HOUR

HEAD START/EARLY HEAD START

Through our Head Start and Early Head Start programs, we work with children (ages 0 – 5) and their families to provide the skills, confidence and stable home life necessary for a smooth transition into kindergarten and beyond. Children receive health and dental services, along with ongoing and acute care. Enrolled children receive healthy meals, nutrition assessments, and education for parents incorporated into daily classroom activities.

JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

The Head Start Teacher will provide children with an environment that includes varied activities to help them develop socially, emotionally, intellectually, and physically in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development, aiming for social competence.

Specific duties include:

  • Implementing the program curriculum for children enrolled in morning and afternoon classes. Planning individual and group activities to stimulate learning and promote parent involvement.
  • Conducting daily classroom planning, maintaining children’s records, and submitting accurate monthly paperwork.
  • Observing, screening, and assessing children’s developmental levels and developing goals related to their individual needs.
  • Providing a planned program of activities that supports and enhances the role of parents as the prime educators.
  • Creating a learning environment that reflects the varied cultural and ethnic backgrounds of the children.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must pass a fingerprint clearance and background check.
  • Proof of TB clearance, annual Influenza vaccination, Pertussis and measles immunization at the time of hire.
  • Health screening at the time of employment.
  • Ability to interact with children in a busy environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs, kneeling, squatting, and moving quickly.

EDUCATION:

  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or related field.
  • 24 Early Childhood Education/Child Development units.
  • Must meet requirements to obtain Child Development Teacher Permit.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years of teaching experience.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Management coursework.
  • Child Development permit.
  • 4 years of teaching experience.
  • Knowledge of Head Start performance standards and licensing regulations.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal).
