About Grand Junction Regional Center

Grand Junction Regional Center (GJRC) is a collection of group homes that serves adult individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who need additional support to stabilize and return to community residential settings. GJRC's focus is on improving outcomes for individuals with IDD as well as promoting community integration. GJRC has a total of 10 homes nestled throughout established neighborhoods of Grand Valley. These homes feature warm, comfortable living spaces and private, fenced backyards with recreation equipment.

The Health Care Technician III supports the work unit supervisor in ensuring that individuals receiving services achieve their personal outcomes. This is accomplished through effective management of resources, oversight of resident records, and smooth operation of the residential site. The HCT III also identifies emerging issues and proactively works toward solutions within their scope of authority.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and oversee up to 14 staff
  • Serve as a work leader and role model by delivering hands-on care and instruction in daily living activities such as bathing, eating, and personal hygiene
  • Ensure safety and support the achievement of personal outcomes in accordance with each individual's care plan
  • Monitor and implement individualized supports and services, including responding to behavioral challenges using specific behavior intervention programs (e.g., Safety Control or Emergency Control)
  • Maintain annual certification in the skilled implementation of Safety Care
  • Ensure staff compliance with schedules and training requirements, referring competency concerns to the supervisor
  • Provide input for employee evaluations and act as a liaison between direct care staff, supervisors, and therapy teams
  • Administer prescribed treatments, medications, and dietary orders; oversee staff in the implementation of medical directives
  • Respond to emergencies and assist medical personnel in providing support and services, including preparing meals according to prescribed dietary needs
  • Maintain a safe and comfortable living environment by addressing safety issues, completing housekeeping tasks, decorating common and personal areas, and conducting quarterly environmental checks
  • Manage, complete, monitor, and delegate administrative tasks including forms, reports, and resident records to support personal outcomes and maintain licensure and certification
  • Assist with monitoring the area budget and perform related duties using both electronic and paper-based systems, with appropriate use of computers and related tools

Education, Licensure, Certification, Experience

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Two (2) years of experience in an occupational field related to working to the work assigned, such as working with a population with intellectual and developmental disabilities

Substitutions

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

Special Qualifications

Must be QMAP trained or hold a valid LPT license

Conditions of Employment

  • Full background check: CDHS employees (all direct contact with vulnerable persons) including CBI name check and fingerprint check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, reference checks, professional license verification (licensure requirements), drug screen, PREA (Division of Youth Services), Trails check (direct contact with children), CAPS (direct contact with adults – Mental Health Institutes, Regional Centers, Veterans Community Living Centers) and reference check required
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. Driver's License
  • Shift Work – GJRC is a 24/7 facility; must be available to work any shift, any day and/or any area, to meet the agency needs
  • Travel – Drive state car, van or bus to various group homes, programming, admin and in community
  • TB test required; influenza and other vaccines as required by state and facility; must be 18 years or older
  • Annual recertification is required for CORE skills including CPR, suctioning, transfers and lift use, wheelchair securement, Safety Care
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose information on the application and may need to provide explanation and prior employee number; failure to provide information may disqualify from future state employment
