Overview

College Organizing Manager — North Region, WI will lead LIT’s campus organizing efforts at UW-Stevens Point, UW-Green Bay, UW-Eau Claire, UW-LaCrosse, and UW-Oshkosh. The Manager will mobilize and organize young people around civic, electoral, and issue-based campaigns, oversee a team of 4–5 part-time College Fellows, and drive regional organizing strategy across these campuses.

Responsibilities

Chapter Building and Maintenance - 20%

  • Maintain active membership with weekly or biweekly campus meetings; aim to increase membership and leadership opportunities for young people
  • Support chapter activities by collaborating with faculty or college staff as an advisor and advocate for youth leadership on campuses

Member Engagement & Recruitment - 20%

  • Conduct 1:1 organizing conversations with potential chapter members
  • Maintain and escalate 1:1 conversations with current members to foster leadership and growth
  • Coordinate with Executive Directors, the South Region College Organizing Manager, and other leads to set campus membership goals
  • Plan campus-specific outreach events (e.g., classroom conversations, tabling, outdoor events, poetry slams, art installations, mutual aid)
  • Build coalitions and relationships with elected officials, UW System administrators, and campus staff

Leadership Development Programs - 30%

  • Manage and support a team of 4–6 part-time College Fellows across North Region campuses
  • Ensure Fellows meet organizational standards; provide oversight, leadership development, and accountability
  • Support statewide and regional trainings and the Summer Black Hogwarts training institute

Civic & Electoral Engagement - 10%

  • Execute non-partisan and partisan civic engagement programs (voter registration, outreach, text/call campaigns, door-to-door outreach, youth summit programs)
  • Engage youth in local school board elections and broader civic engagement efforts as needed
  • Support civic engagement around local, statewide, and national elections

Issue Campaign Planning & Execution - 20%

  • Develop and implement school-based action plans for Invest-Divest and other LIT campaigns
  • Advance LIT platform priorities at all levels of government
  • Collaborate on lobbying and issue advocacy priorities with North Region leadership
  • Recruit students to participate in the State Budget process

Candidate Profile & Requirements

  • 1 year of full-time paid organizing experience
  • Experience working with college-aged students
  • Ability to organize and mobilize Black and Brown students into action
  • Understanding of issue and electoral organizing
  • Commitment to LIT’s mission and building leadership among Black & Brown youth
  • Commitment to learning in a diverse staff environment
  • Strong prioritization, problem-solving, and proactive communication skills
  • Self-driven, resourceful, and capable of working with minimal supervision

Logistics

  • Employment Class: Full-time exempt
  • Reports to: Co-Executive Directors, Director of Programming
  • Compensation: $55,000 annually
  • Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision; additional benefits include cell phone stipend, mileage reimbursements, professional development funds
  • Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8-hour days; some weekends/nights may be required
  • Location: Eau Claire, Green Bay, La Crosse, Oshkosh, or Stevens Point, WI (preferred)
  • Travel: Required to visit campuses for organizing with young people and campus stakeholders
